Poor Reception from Transmitter When More Than A Few Feet From The Vehicle
Check the antenna ground by performing a continuity test between the metal base of the anntenna whip and the shell of the RF connector attached to the vault. There should be no resistance.

Check the chasis ground by performing a continuity test between the metal base of the anntenna whip and the car chasis. Any resistance here will result in noisey audio.

Check for continuity between the antenna whip and the tip of the RF connector attached to the vault. There should be no resistance.

The green wire of the interface cable is soldered to a shield in the cable that provides ground. Verify that the green interface wire is connected to chasis ground. Older cables don't have a green wire soldered to the shield. For these cables it is necessary to locate the shield, solder a wire to it and then attach the wire to chasis ground.

If the antenna is installed somewhere other than the trunk lip, be aware of these items:
The surface indicated by the arrow in this picture must be flush against bare metal in order to get a proper ground.

The insulator indicated by the arrow must be flush with or slightly above the surface of the threaded brass nut to ensure good contact with the antenna.

The rubber O-ring gasket must be installed in order to obtain a water tight seal.
