Introduction
The above model radar guns have the ability to interface with the AVE Video Serial Interface for superimposing the target radar speed into a video picture. If the radar gun is already fitted with the DB-15 plug in the rear of the unit, it already contains the necessary interface modification to directly connect to the VSI. If it does not, the following modification must be done by the installer or Kustom Signals Inc.
Parts List
- R12 - 22M 1/4W Resistor
- R15 - 1M 1/4W Resistor
- R16 - 470K 1/4 Resistor
- CR9,CR17,CR18 - 1N4148 Diode
- U15 - 4518 CMOS IC
- U1 - 4050 CMOS IC
- U16 - 4013 CMOS IC
- C14 - .001uF 50V Capacitor
- DB-15(F) - Amp 745094-2
Installation
Warning: Installation of this modification my void your warranty. Consult with your dealer before proceeding. Incorrect installation may permanently damage the unit.
- Disconnect the main unit from the 12VDC power source. Disconnect the
antenna from the main unit.
- Remove the two end mounting bracket twist on screws. Remove the metal
side panels.
****Note: You must use a static strap on the
rest of the disassembly and reassembly.****
- Remove the two phillips head screws from each end of the main unit.
The vinyl covers can then be removed.
- Remove the four phillips head screws holding the analog pcb to the
chassis. This is the pcb that holds the speaker. Unplug this pcb from
the digital pcb and place to the side.
- Locate all resistor, diode, capacitor, connector and IC locations.
Remove the solder from the holes of each part. Remove rear panel cover.
Install the parts and solder. Note diode and IC orientation and install
correctly.
- Reassemble unit in opposite order from disassembly.
- Connect DB-15 from radar unit to the VSI. The target speed will display
in the video whenever it is displayed on the LED front panel display.
The patrol speed is not available with the above modification.
