The input to the VSI+Radar is standard RS-232 and with special internal modules that are replaceable can accept TTL, RS-422 or RS-485 signals directly. Many newer radar guns have a direct RS-232 output that connects directly to the VSI+Radar. If the radar gun is an older model it many require an extra black box interface called the RG2RS. This box converts the non-standard signals from these other radar guns to the industry standard RS-232. This RS-232 data is then connected to the VSI+Radar.

The
VSI+Radar is a stand alone text inserter that will insert the speed readings
of many popular radar guns into the video picture of a standard video
camera. The VSI+Radar has a video in which comes from the camera and a
video output that goes to the VCR. 
Since
the outputs of radar guns vary so does the content of the data displayed
on-screen. Some may have only target speed while others may have target
speed, patrol speed and locked speed. Below is a list of compatible radar
guns that will work with either the VSI+Radar alone or require the RG2RS
also.
